INVESTING IN THE FUTURE
grrit.y kids
The literacy crisis in the United States is more than just a statistic—it’s a call to action. Around 25 million children struggle with reading proficiency. This issue affects not just our youth; more than half of American adults cannot understand texts at or above a basic 6th-grade level. Globally, nearly 250 million children are failing to acquire basic literacy skills, and at least 754 million adults still cannot read and write, two-thirds of them women.
The implications of poor literacy skills are profound and far-reaching, including behavioral challenges, diminished self-worth, lower academic achievement, and restricted autonomy and opportunity. Societal progress depends on participation in civic life and the ability to understand critical information, problem-solve, and think creatively in our increasingly complex world.
grrit.y kids improves literacy outcomes by providing intentionally diverse, accessible content and literature that caters to different learning styles and inspires internal and external acceptance. By incorporating varied voices and perspectives, we create a richer, more inclusive learning experience that supports broad literacy development, critical thinking, and social-emotional development.

Problem
-
Literacy Crisis: 25 million children struggle with reading proficiency globally. Without strong listening skills, children face challenges in understanding instruction, solving problems, and interacting with peers.
-
Lack of Emotional and Social Learning: Children today face increasing pressures on self-esteem, body image, and social acceptance. Many struggle with understanding their emotions and the value of self-acceptance. They need more resources that help them develop not just academically but emotionally as well.
-
Limited Access to Effective, Engaging Learning Tools: Traditional education often focuses solely on academics, leaving emotional and social learning by the wayside. Podcasts, however, offer an innovative way to engage kids in learning—through fun, immersive audio experiences that can be accessed anywhere, anytime.
Solution
1. Listening Comprehension: Each episode of grrit.y kids includes captivating stories, interactive discussions, and modeling to recall details, enhance listening skills, and think critically about what they hear.
2. Visualization Skills: We integrate exercises that help children picture scenes, characters, and emotions in their minds, improving their ability to visualize and engage deeply with the content. Visualization is a key skill in both reading comprehension and creative thinking.
3. Self-Acceptance & Empathy: Our podcast explores themes of self-love, diversity, and acceptance through diverse characters, real-world challenges, and stories that encourage children to appreciate their uniqueness. We aim to build emotional intelligence, helping kids navigate feelings of insecurity and embrace who they are.
